Hellow, now I thought to put forth a question on to my readers, a profound question, at least to me. People hold great respect in serving others. Though many of us cannot help us from those rich brands or that luxurious cuisine offered in a very prestigious hotel, we think sometimes, to help those people in need. When we come out of a mall or while we travel in a luxurious car, it pricks us when we look at that uncared old lady sleeping under the flyover, or a child begging desperately on roads. We never know if they are the victims of that giant begging mafia or became homeless after a disastrous cyclone.
It bothers me often when I see someone homeless, helpless, devoid of any kind of human dignity. There are instances where kids share their food with the dogs in the dustbin. I think over it many times and there are many instances which made me cry. Whenever I get a chance I tend to help them, no, give them what they deserve. I feel it is my duty to serve them. But in this journey, of understanding their state and contributing to their development this question started to puzzle me. The question being " why should I help them, why should their smiles matter to me?"
To get an answer I approached many from varied backgrounds.
A spiritual/religious person - there is the god in every human being and serving humanity is serving god. As it is our duty to serve God it is our duty to serve the destitute. In this category falls people like- Swamy Vivekananda, Mother Teresa. I don't find it convincing because I don't know if I have to serve god -a solid reason to serve God.
Economist- People become rich by utilizing the common resources. If you become rich, utilize it implies you are forbidding the other person to utilize those resources. So it's our duty to give something back to the community which gave us scope for the utilization of those resources. I find something objective in this, a little convincing answer.
But as I mentioned, it is little convincing. I need a solid answer which makes my soul feel satisfied. Can you answer??
